July 15th Press Conference

Thursday July 15th 2010

It’s been over five months since the new clean power ordinance was introduced into the city council. Since that time only thirteen alderman have jumped on-board and publicly co-sponsor this ordinance. Why is it that so many alderman have not joined the cause and refuse to support the city’s regulation of pollution from coal-fired power plants? Why is it that so many alderman refuse to support healthier air quality for not only the city but the surrounding areas? Why is it that the two aldermen who have the power plants in their wards and whose constituents are among those with the highest rates of asthma not supporting this ordinance? These are the questions that coalition members were raising this Thursday at Dvorak park in Pilsen.

The Chicago Clean Power Coalition has been working hard to raise public awareness and bring media attention to the fact that certain politicians have refused to support an ordinance that clearly benefits the health for all Chicagoans and everyone in the surrounding area. The press conference held in Pilsen close to the Fisk Generating Station was attended by many Community Members, Coalition Members, Members of the Press, and Supportive Aldermen. All of whom were asking other politicians why they aren’t they supportive of this clearly beneficial Ordinance
